Dental health affects medical health strongly, so why is it not fully insured?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Question by longwalkjohn: Dental health affects medical health strongly, so why is it not fully insured?
if you have ever gone to a dentist, you will often see that the “coverages” of your insurance does not cover “__” “___” and especially “___”…there are always extra charges and many people I know avoid the dentist because they cannot afford care. It has been known since the early 70′s that poor gum and teeth health can cause arterioschlerosis and extreme toxicity that causes heart disease…many of the people who have had heart attacks are also people who could not or did not maintain their “oral health”….

You can see a doctor for an agreeable fee and get taken care of at an affordable level, but honestly, get some dental work done and it can break you…why has not not ever changed?

It’s because too many people abuse insurance with cosmetic and unnecessary services that they ruin it for everyone. It’s not just dentists, it’s chiropractors, acupunture, therapists, etc.

So abortion is cruel, but uninsured American children don’t deserve health care because that’s “socialism”?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Question by the girl with kaleidoscope eyes: So abortion is cruel, but uninsured American children don’t deserve health care because that’s “socialism”?
-28,000 American infants die before they reach their first birthday
-Uninsured children are almost 9 times as likely to have a medical need that goes unmet than a child with health coverage, and are 5 times as likely as an insured child to go more than 2 years without seeing a doctor. Regular health screenings help doctors identify and treat problems preventively and are crucial to a child’s healthy development.
-An estimated two-thirds of children and youth with mental health needs are not getting the help they need. In fact, unmet need is as high today as it was 20 years ago. Children without mental health coverage are at risk of entering the Pipeline.
-Uninsured children are more than 4 times as likely as an insured child to have an unmet dental health need. In 2000, children missed more than 51 million hours of school because of dental-related illness.
-Uninsured children are more likely than insured children to perform poorly in school; in contrast, enrolling children in health coverage has been associated with greatly improved school performance.
1st of all, I don’t have kids, i’m 18, but I guess in your family thats the old age for having kids…
-Uninsured children come from working families. The vast majority of uninsured children (88.2 percent) come from families where at least one parent works, and more than two-thirds of uninsured children—or 68.5 percent—live in households where at least one family member works full-time, year-round.
So no, its not because of lazy parents.

-The five states with the largest number of uninsured children are Texas, California, Florida, New York, and Georgia. Together, the uninsured children in these five states account for nearly half of all uninsured children in the country (48.3 percent).

So its not only the “crazy liberal left wing” states…

I mean geez, even if the parent was a lazy bum, does the child deserve to suffer?
Why does everyone think I have kids?? Is 18 the average Conservative age for having kids? LMAO

What percent of illegal immigrant children don’t have health insurance?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Question by Benjamin: What percent of illegal immigrant children don’t have health insurance?
If you know the percent who don’t have health care in California that would be even better. California is proposing an initiative that would raise cigarette taxes to $ 3.47/pack in part to pay for health, dental and vision benefits for illegal immigrant children.
Chloe, no I didn’t say that a pack of cigs is going to be $ 3.47, I said that the TAX ALONE is going to be $ 3.47. That will make it about $ 7 a pack in all, on average.
And also Chloe, no I didn’t make this up … you can google it, it’s all over the net. Here’s what the nonpartisan legislative analysts office said: (this information is in your state supplied voter guide if you live in California): “Almost one-half of these funds would be allocated to expand the HFP (Healthy Families Program) to provide health coverage to include (1) children from families with income between 250 percent and 300 percent of the FPL and (2) CHILDREN FROM FAMILIES WITH INCOMES UP TO 300 PERCENT OF THE FPL WHO ARE UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS OR LEGAL IMMIGRANTS NOT NOW ELLIGIBLE FOR HFP.

Working Americans should not have to worry about dental insurance but many of us do. Here are some resources that should be able to assist you. Contact your local dental society to get the names of dentists/dental clinics that provide free, low-cost or sliding scale fee care. I have included the links below. God Bless. (I’m a Social Worker)

Should kids be allowed to chew gum at school to promote dental health?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Question by tonystewartfreak: Should kids be allowed to chew gum at school to promote dental health?
I chewed gum almost every day while growing up (sugar-free of course), and didn’t get a cavity until I was 26. I asked my dentist if the gum helped, and he said that it does help to remove food from your teeth after you eat. Since schools claim to be concerned about the dental health of children, but don’t allow them time to brush their teeth, wouldn’t it be beneficial for the children to be able to chew a piece of gum after meals?

Best answer:

Answer by Amir B.
I would definitely say yes to that. I brush after every meal I eat, but in school I don’t have time. Chewing gum helps get the food out and gives my breath a good smell. I would promote chewing gum in all schools (as long as nobody distracts anyone, of course).

What is the best mouth wash for your overall dental and oral health?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Question by WOODSEY NILES: What is the best mouth wash for your overall dental and oral health?
Which mouth wash is best for your dental health? I ask specifically which is best for your overall health, because I know there are products which target bad breath. Some of them do that very well, but are they the best for your overall dental health?

So, which mouth wash is best overall?

Best answer:

Answer by dragonsong
The Gorn King – for OVERALL DENTAL AND ORAL HEALTH? Skip the regular mouthwashes and use hydrogen peroxide as your mouthwash.

if you look at the list of ingredients in most tooth whitening products (including the strips) you may notice that the tooth whitening ingredient is some form of Hydrogen Peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide will not only whiten your teeth it also kills the bacteria in the mouth that causes cavities and bad breath.

Every morning and before bed after brushing and flossing use Hydrogen Peroxide as your mouth wash. You can buy hydrogen peroxide (3% in the brown bottle) at your local drugstore for about $ 2 for a 32 ounce bottle. Mix ½ ounce hydrogen peroxide with ½ ounce hot water and swirl in your mouth for about 1 minute (hydrogen peroxide is odorless and tasteless but it FOAMS and may sting your mouth a bit). After swirling, spit out the hydrogen peroxide (DO NOT SWALLOW) and then rinse your mouth out several times with cool water. A 32 ounce bottle will last about one month.

Using hydrogen peroxide will prevent cavities, whiten your teeth and freshen your breath at a fraction of the cost of regular mouthwash.
