Dental health affects medical health strongly, so why is it not fully insured?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Question by longwalkjohn: Dental health affects medical health strongly, so why is it not fully insured?
if you have ever gone to a dentist, you will often see that the “coverages” of your insurance does not cover “__” “___” and especially “___”…there are always extra charges and many people I know avoid the dentist because they cannot afford care. It has been known since the early 70′s that poor gum and teeth health can cause arterioschlerosis and extreme toxicity that causes heart disease…many of the people who have had heart attacks are also people who could not or did not maintain their “oral health”….

You can see a doctor for an agreeable fee and get taken care of at an affordable level, but honestly, get some dental work done and it can break you…why has not not ever changed?

It’s because too many people abuse insurance with cosmetic and unnecessary services that they ruin it for everyone. It’s not just dentists, it’s chiropractors, acupunture, therapists, etc.

What search terms should I use when looking for dental books?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Question by john: What search terms should I use when looking for dental books?
I usually search for oral health, dental health.

If I search for dentist I get concerned the book results will be basic kids books.

Also I try to search for gum disease or periodontology and the more sophisticated words.

Best answer:

Answer by starla
The search terms you are using are a good place to start, but what kinds of search terms you use depend on where you are searching. For example, if you are using a public library catalog and use “dentist” then you’re right, you may get children’s books, but if you’re using a university library catalog, you are less likely to get children’s books.

Some catalogs will allow you to truncate words to do a search that gives you variations of a word. For example, you could try periodont* and then you could books that have the words periodontics, periodontist, or periodontology.

You should also try dentist* to get dentists, dentist and dentistry. The Library of Congress uses the term “dentistry” in its catalog and most academic (university) libraries follow that model.

When you’re trying to figure out search terms, try to explain what you want to look up to someone who is unfamiliar with your topic. This will challenge you to think of different ways to talk about your topic and help you think of different keywords.

Check out www.worldcat.org to find more sources. It will show you the libraries closest to you (based on zip code) that own the materials.

Finally, after you’ve find a couple of sources online, you should head into your library and do some browsing. You can used the bibliographies in the back of books that you have to find other related titles, or just look at the other books on the shelf around the books you found online.

Working Americans should not have to worry about dental insurance but many of us do. Here are some resources that should be able to assist you. Contact your local dental society to get the names of dentists/dental clinics that provide free, low-cost or sliding scale fee care. I have included the links below. God Bless. (I’m a Social Worker)

What are the top 3 dental insurance companies for Georgia Residents?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Question by flipho_3000: What are the top 3 dental insurance companies for Georgia Residents?
I have been researching to find dental insurance instead of dental discount plans. As long as it is not BCBS; then I may be interested. BCBS of Georgia doesn’t pay for certain dental procedures. What companies pay at least 80% percentage of dental bridge work, dental crowns, and dental veneers as well as dental braces. I would love to be able to have a dental insurance company who pays 100%; but I would be satisfied with a company who pays 80%.

I would encourage you to visit this great website. healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 6 years ago and they have saved me thousands over the years. From xrays, exams, root canals, fillings…etc. Even my braces had fantastic coverage. They even had my affordable benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. Good luck and hope this helps.

Should kids be allowed to chew gum at school to promote dental health?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Question by tonystewartfreak: Should kids be allowed to chew gum at school to promote dental health?
I chewed gum almost every day while growing up (sugar-free of course), and didn’t get a cavity until I was 26. I asked my dentist if the gum helped, and he said that it does help to remove food from your teeth after you eat. Since schools claim to be concerned about the dental health of children, but don’t allow them time to brush their teeth, wouldn’t it be beneficial for the children to be able to chew a piece of gum after meals?

Best answer:

Answer by Amir B.
I would definitely say yes to that. I brush after every meal I eat, but in school I don’t have time. Chewing gum helps get the food out and gives my breath a good smell. I would promote chewing gum in all schools (as long as nobody distracts anyone, of course).

Where can i find cheap dental work in Southern California?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Question by DuckieHelp.: Where can i find cheap dental work in Southern California?
I’m under the age of 18 and my parents have horrible dental insurance. Their dental insurance covers less than 10%. I need to find a place that has rather cheap dental work, but not at a dental school. (I need a lot of work done). Thanks.

Hey at a dental school the need a lot of work to do. The only disadvantage of a dental school is it is very slow, but very thorough.
